Redevelopment of the aged Youth Precinct on the Geraldton Foreshore into a modern facility for young people is one step closer following Council’s endorsement of the updated Masterplan.
The City has been working closely with local high school students, youth service providers, project stakeholders and the broader community to determine how to create an ‘edgy and vibrant’ precinct young people can call their own.
ҹɫè Mayor Jerry Clune said the extensive engagement undertaken has resulted in overwhelming support for the updated Youth Precinct Masterplan.
“Since March 2024, three community surveys, six workshops and 11 stakeholder meetings have been held to identify concerns, generate ideas, prioritise activities and gather feedback on concept designs for the Youth Precinct.
“So it comes as no surprise that the resulting Masterplan that was designed by youth, for youth was unanimously supported by high school student leaders, youth service providers, youth group members and project stakeholders.
“I was also really pleased to see the vast majority of residents of all ages who provided feedback on the updated Masterplan strongly supported the design.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved who spent a great deal of time and effort in developing the design and everyone who gave us their feedback.
“When a proposed space has this level of community support its really a no brainer for Council to give it the green light,” added Mayor Clune.
Detailed design on the updated Youth Precinct Masterplan will now begin, which the City has allocated $3.8 million in the 2025/26 Budget to upgrade.
